Video: How To Live To Be 100+ – Dan Buettner

Whenever I say I want to live up to the year 2100 people get annoyed at me and are usually baffled?  Why would anyone want to reach that age, and most probably be living life in solitude?  Well, to answer this question, and although too many to list, they are as follows:

  1. Life is magnificent.  It took millions of years to be created to this point and ever so long for us to be here, with atmospheric changes and animal extintion occuring ‘for us’ to exist; how can we not appreciate that?
  2. There is so much to do before you die, there are so many places to see, people to meet, things to learn and discover about yourself and the world.
  3. The advancement of science.  I want to be alive when we start moving to Mars, I want to be alive when they announce that we have discovered life somewhere else in the universe, I want to be alive when they create the anti-aging gene.  If you told Marco Polo that he’d get to China in 14 hours, he’d say you were an infidel or a sorcerer.
  4. The advancement of technology.  I want to be alive when robots can communicate with us (Siri is laying the groundwork) and do things like drive a car or operate surgeries.  I want to be alive when there is no need for needles anymore to test our blood, but instead we’re spitting in a bottle to let us know whether we are sick or not.  I want to be alive when they discover the mysteries of the quantum world, when scientists can measure the space and distance of an electron at the same time, which accordingly can then lead to the quantum computer, which will be a trillion times faster than our computers now.

There are so many exciting things to be alive for, and these are but a few, and they are mine.  List yours and get inspired, I would love to be 100 but life is too short.  Enjoy this video.

  1. Let’s see…First of all I want to say that living to the year 2100 is a double-edged sword. The way our earth is being abused, I sort of hope I die before I see it spiraling off its axis. HOWEVER. There are a few things I don’t want to miss out on and here they are:

    1. I want to see the day where someone has invented a device to record dreams. These dreams would be played back multi-sensorily so that you can see, hear, smell, taste and feel everything exactly the way it transpired in our sleep. But more importantly, it would be a way to share these dreams with others.

    2. I want to experience teleportation. I want to be able to get to Australia or Japan or Hawaii in a few hours, maybe even minutes (OK, hours is more realistic, unless I get to live to 2200).

    3. When I was little and we were asked to envision the year 2000, there was always pasta in my skies. I want to live to see that.

    4. I want to witness the eradication of cancer. It is such a scary and arbitrary disease, it’s almost medieval. I know there will always be disease as we ‘advance’ across all fields, but there’s something about cancer that is malevolent. You just can’t control it. You can be the healthiest, most active person around and then for some reason your cells decide to fight your body. It’s pure evil.

I think that’s it really. The idea of living so long scares me anyway. I would only hope that my loved ones live that long too! And all the idiots on this earth are banished to Mars.

Now, can I choose who stays and who goes? That would be nice :).
