Video: David Attenborough – First Life
David Attenborough one of the best science presenter and educator with his unique voice and exciting presentation. First life explains the origins of life through fossils, technology and living examples. There are too much to know and too little time to understand but thanks to people like David and technology we get to see and experience evidence of who we are and what makes us so special in the universe. I wish he was my grandfather, where I get to accompany him to all these remote places, take pictures and listen to him telling me the story of life. Enjoy!
Video: Sex, Death and The Meaning of Life (Arabic Subtitled)
On a Saturday morning, get a cup of coffee, free your schedule, get comfortable and watch this three episode documentary about the basic questions we ask about life. Questioning is healthy, and better yet if it becomes a healthy habit. What a feeling it is when we explore a new country, when presented with evidence for a new theory, when testing a new product, or when discussing politics; how amplified it can be by questioning. We go through this everyday, but do we really afford the necessary time to analyze and contemplate our experiences? You read, watch, research and discuss all kinds of ideas and you go through a whole process of doubt, looking for better understanding on topics and seeking assurances for them against older beliefs. Certain conclusions may not immediately be reached, and answers hard to come by, but once that unasked question is asked, doors open in this fascinating process from not knowing to knowing, or knowing but now even better. Some call it the Socratic method, some critical thinking or the scientific method. All I know is that it changes us and gives us an incentive to explore and adapt to change, it moves us away from being static in thought and action. The ability to think using our neurons in our brain is something we have to cherish, and it all starts with questions.
Music: Vennu Mallesh – It’s My Life What Ever I Wanna Do
Freedom of expression is liberating especially through music. I love how music expresses our culture, ideas and shows how diverse we are but at the end of the day, we all want the same thing, which is to express ourselves.
Photography: Urban Hike. Kuwait City. February 2013
One of many ways to connect to your surroundings and enjoy the outdoors is by walking. We remember more on our legs. I find it exciting to walk between buildings, parks, markets, trails, highways and among the people. Urban Hikes is a series of many more to come, exploring my surroundings. This hike, my friend and I parked our car at the Alhamra building and walked to Souq Al-Mubarakiya. Throughout and for only 200 fils, we even threw in a bus ride just to experience our seldom used public transport. We had lunch at the old market of Mubarakiya and enjoyed our conversations with retired gentlemen who now hang out at the old coffee shops. We talked openly about politics, life and hobbies. These are some of the photos and people we met.
Music: Symphony Of Science – The Poetry of Reality
Symphony of science, created by John D Boswell, who takes lectures and speeches from great scientists, transforms their voices and adds music to create a wonderful collection of symphonies. Poetry of reality and the greatest show on earth are some of my favorites.
